    • Trainees split into two teams for meeting and organization

Module Assignments:

  • Search the web for websites with online lesson plans for science/engineering education
  • Browse lesson plans at CCMR and National Science Teachers Association website.
  • Prepare update slide with projected accomplishments for next three weeks
  • Reformat lesson plans according to templates in Dropbox> MODULES> TECHNICAL WRITING>Year 4> Resources. Upload copy of reformatted plans to Dropbox before next Monday.

Management Assignments:

  • IGERT Trainees International experience in France scheduled for 18 days (July 1- July 18).
    • Students who need to fly into Norfolk must email Ms. Simmons kfsimmons@nsu.edu their itinerary by April 16.
    • The airport we will arrive at in France is MRS
    • Complete Ethics and IP evaluation ASAP

Meeting Notes:

Beginning 6-week writing module. Determining proper protocol for publication and/or commercialization of teaching materials. Three groups: pedagogy reflections paper (3 trainees), teaching resource template and IRB for next year (5 trainees), and commercialization (2 trainees). Commercialization (for online publication): format, how – legal implications etc., advertising venues, offering at other sites etc. High school teachers will purchase. Dr. Shepard (TJ’s 2nd advisor) can help with business aspects. Kit Umbach and Suely can help with teaching resources.

Catherine, TJ, and Marc are leading the publication editing.

Module Assignments: Specific student assignments given in the technical writing syllabus

Read articles in Dropbox under technical writing module, year 4 (Graybill and CarbonNano_Final)

Management Assignments: for France trip, decide what airport to fly out of

Module Assignments:

  • Submit two page (double spaced) reflection on pedagogy HS lesson plan activity.
    • Explain how you used backward design in the construction of your activity

    • Explain how your communication strategies differed between writing for students and writing for teachers.

    • Explain what literature and best practices you used in the design of this learning environment.

    • Reflect on your experiences (difficulties, successes) working with a partner at another university.
  • Writing module is beginning. Please select from two options and email Vanessa v.n.peters@spartans.nsu.edu before 12 pm Monday:
    • Option 1: Collaborative journal publication related to Pedagogy module deliverable
    • Option 2: Organize materials from Pedagogy module into a lab manual

  • Catherine and Professor Cox discussed design-based research

Module Assignments:

  • 15 minute final presentation on deliverables
    • Relate the content and activities of the deliverables to the learnign and teaching styles that were discussed throughou the module.
