3)    Tom presented “Adopting Block Copolymer Chemistry Towards Devices on Multiple Length Scale”.  His project idea has two parts:

-       Part 1: Use multiple length scale to target different wavelength/ frequencies for optical properties

-       Fabrication: 3D Printing (layer by layer deposition) of block copolymer materials.

-       Part 2: Printing Transformation Optical Structures

4)    Planning the Retreat (June 15-17, 2011):

Notes for April 7, 2011  9:30-10:10am

1)    Tanya presented her original idea on using conjugated SAMs in 3D multilayer and lamellar structures. His idea (Improve numeric modeling tools that take into account the metamaterial nanostructure.)

-       Calculate SHG response from first-principles that takes into account the electron structure of the material, interfaces, etc instead of the values for bulk material which doesn’t take any of these calculations into account.

-       Two part calculations that will cover the nanostructure and its in environment in the metamaterial.

2)    Planning the Retreat (June 15-17, 2011):

Action Items

1.     Dietary Restriction: Please email Taina ASAP

2.     Suggestions for a fun night (movies, night out on the VA Beach strip, Busch Garden etc.) email Taina ASAP

3.     List of Instruments that are available at NSU for use is needed e.g Confocal Microscope email Taina ASAP (Dr. Black)

4.     The Draft of the Itinerary will be discussed in future meetings.
