Objective & Learning Outcomes


The objective of this module is to make sure that trainees have a solid foundation in some of the key areas of IP, bioethics, and responsible research conduct as it pertains to biomedical research. The goals are to:

  • Educate IGERT trainees on responsible and ethical research practices for social and behavioral science
  • Assess evidence-based teaching methods that could be included in future IGERT-MNM modules
  • Complete first seven sessions of CITI Social and Behavioral RCR before start of module
  • Complete remaining three sessions + certification before the end of the ethics module


AT the completion of this module, trainees should be able to:

  • Describe different forms of research misconduct.
  • Identify best practices for data management.
  • Differentiate between research advisor and mentor.
  • Explain benefits and risks of collaborations.
  • Describe the rights of human subjects in experimental trials.
  • Identify possible teaching methods we could use in the engineering education proposal project.
