Proposed Research Idea: Use of gold nanospheres to improve the sensibility of the SPR biosensor

Second Speaker: Hareesh Dondapati

Title: Semiconductor Quantum dot imaging probes for Cancer Diagnosis.

Proposed Research Idea: Surface modification of CdSe QD's for early cancer detection.

Third Speaker: Rabia Hussain

Title: Luminescent Silica Core/Silver Shell encapsulated with Eu(III) Complex for time-resolved in vitro diagnostics

Proposed Research Idea: Use of Time resolved in vitro diagnostic-Fluorescence spectroscopy to fluorescence emission

Title: SPR Enhanced Fluorescence for Study of Metastatic Diseases

Proposed Research Idea: prevent the tumor cell from spreading by removing them

Second Speaker: Tanya David

Title: Pain Management for Sickle Cell Anemia using nanoparticles

Proposed Research Idea: Use self assembled polymers or polymer coated magnetic nanoparticles to act as “soft bowling balls”

Third Speaker: Hareesh Dondapati

Title: Semiconductor Quantum dots for Cancer Diagnosis.

Proposed Research Idea: using QD's for early cancer detection.

IGERT Meeting convened at 10:00am.

Past Assignments/Deadlines: Answer questions based on biology and nanotechnology applications through two youtube videos based from the Center of Biophotonics at the University of California (UC-Davis) and bring hard copy and e-mail to TJ.

Minutes: Today was the first day of presentations for the independent research module. There were three speakers who provided detailed background and proposed their initial research ideal for the IR Module. Evaluations of their presentations (content, relevance, presentation skills etc) were made by all attendees present at today's meetings.

First speaker: Mohammad Mayy

Title: 42

Proposed Research Idea: Use of polyamidoamine dendrimers to activate Ngn3 to regenerate the new cells for insulin production.

Second Speaker: Amanda Harding

Title: Independent Research Module- Year 3

Proposed Research Idea: Use a visible dye (methylene blue) to bind to polymers to target for tumor removal during surgery.

Third Speaker: Olu Bamiduro

Title: A Solution to Sleep Apnea via Nanotechnology Applications

Proposed Research Idea: Use of electrostatic nanoparticles to reduce affects from closing air passageways that induces sleep apnea.
